Forum rules
This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |

Should be Cheetah D with tailnumber 861. I could be wrong but I think it's the very last airworthy Cheetah (it was expected at the 2008 airshow at Ysterplaat, but unfortunately it didn't show up...)Rob van R wrote:The fighter looks like a Cheetah.

It is, if you brighten up the photo '861' can easily be read on the rear fuselage...Stephan Lodewijks wrote:Should be Cheetah D with tailnumber 861.

nice catch again on that botswana aircraft!
The cheetah is a good catch aswell
I am not sure how up to date my info is, and I am recalling all from my memory, but I can check for you when i get back home.
anyway, until recently as much as 3 cheetah's have been kept airworthy and have been spotted every now and then on aproach into or tambo and a number of other airports.
They still had the grey livery, you are the first who i see with this colourfull livery, looks like perhaps a nice combo with their mirage!
will you be visiting swartkops?

Just two Kulula pics of the ZS-ZWP with its nice C/S taken from the apron while departing.
20 August:
Today I had a great day. I had the opportunity to get a look inside an Air Almaty IL-76T (UP-17633). With special thanks to the crew of this bird who where very relaxed and didn't mind that I took some pictures. I hope you enjoy!
Some of the outside first:
It taxied in with it's cargo doors already opened.
Inside of the Ilyushin:
The flightdeck:
Engine parameters:
Lots of switches:
Radio-communication panel:
Underneath the flightdeck (looking Fwd. to Aft.):
Navigation instruments:
Cargo compartment:
Onboard Crane:
The shitter (what a smell )
I hope you liked! GrtZ

Hi Chris,
First of all let me say that this topic and all the information is nothing less then brilliant! I mean it, everytime I come here it's like "I got to to JNB".
In fact, me and a friend are planning a trip for next year and we're thinking about staying at that same hotel, Birchwood, and I have some questions for you about this spotting location and it's area:
- Do you take the photos within the Hotel perimeter or do you come to the street in front of it? In any of the cases, does Hotel security forbidden us from beiing there taking photos.
- Is the area surrounding the Hotel one that you consider to be safe? For example to walk to the nearby supermarket, but of course with the cameras inside the backpack.
Thank you so much for your time, and please continue making us all dreaming about the amazing traffic at JNB
Best regards
