This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |

Johannesburg OR Tambo Int. Airport (FAJS/JNB) XXL Post
Hello all,
I'm from 01 August to 24 September in Johannesburg (South-Africa) for work on the airport. I'm staying in the Birchwood hotel (in the vicinity of point 6 of the airfield guid). When RWY 03R is in use for landing it's ideal for taking pics of planes. So hereby some of them ( not all from the best quality) which I want to share. I'll try to update as much as possible. Don't hestitate to place comments. Thanks in advance.

great pics, hope mine will be as nice as well when I am there.
The pics were taken from the hotel? It would be nice as I still am looking for a hotel in JNB. If so, what rooms be the best?

Thanks guys for the comments. Here we go again!
@ Marco, Yes all the pics are taken from the hotel. Only when the planes are landing on RWY 03R. There is a big parking lot (own terrain from the hotel) where I took the pictures. There are a lot of rooms here the best is to go and stand on the parking lot. The only disadvantage is that the sun is from eleven o'clock is in a poor position (as you probably can see on the pictures). site of the hotel is: http://www.birchwoodhotel.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Nice pictures ! The fighter looks like a Cheetah. Are you planning to visit Lanseria Airport ? If so, get in contact with Mister Opperman at the airport for a private tour at the airport

Re: Johannesburg OR Tambo Int. Airport (FAJS/JNB) XXL Post
@Chris, thanks. I keep in mind. So better to switch around at 11:00hrs. Taxis are not that expensive to go to the otherside of the runway or to the viewing deck. I like your pics a lot, some very nice exotic planes shot already. Keep them coming
@Gietje, of course you do mind. Sun in the back is a must have, especially that far away. Maybe you will only have 1 shot. When looking at the MA60, they have not a such good service record, maybe it was his only chance to shoot.
@Rob, where is this guy working? Airport authorities, handling, etc?
