Hello all,
My trailmap said that there is an Altisurface in Val Thorens, so I went for a look.
I found that this would be it, but seems more some kind of lake to me?
What do you think?
Kind Regards,
Olmo Müller.

I think too short for a Cessna Citation anyway.

Dear Olmo!
Last year I enjoyed my hollidays in Val Thorens and this is not the Altiport you photographed on the above picture.
The altiport is situated near the Moutiere-lift and the Grand Fond lift. When you step out of the Moutiere-lift it is just right of the exit.
On the site there is also a little hangar and a windsocket.
Here is a picture:

Hope it clears something up!
And sorry for the big and ugly picure!
Ciao, MartijnMD11
Edit by mod: Sorry, but 2417px wide is way too big for a forum, hence the link now in stead of the photo.

The airports' runway is the most important main street in any town!

I recognise the cabin lift in de background of your picture, it's exactly the same location as your picture, only from another viewpoint.
Edit: when I took another look at this picture:
I saw the altiport is actually completely snowed away!
Thank you for your help.
Kind regards,
Olmo Müller

The Alouette was flying in its last year. Also visitors came by.... (AlAT Gazelle). Sorry 4 the poor quality, it was taken with a rits rat klick.

There are many altiports and altisurfaces in the area. This site has a lot of info, although I can't find Val Thorens there now.
I did find it in February 2004 though, in the Alps that is.
The landing area, seen from opposite ski slope.
Jodel climbing the runway after landing.
Another landing, just about to touch.
Departures have to be in the opposite direction. This makes for interesting planning with more than one plane in the circuit.

Climb to 20ft, we're leaving a dust trail
