Winter operations Austrian Air Force
Like many others, this week I'm staying in Austria for some skiing. Last couple of years I've been going to the same spot and since a couple of years the Austrian Air Force is seemingly liking the spot too as they mostly are using this place for dropping paratroopers. As my main purpose on the slopes is skiing I usually don't carry all of my gear with me. Most pictures I've made over the years up to now weren't suited for publishing or at least weren't meeting my criteria for publishing. However, a couple of days ago I noticed they were up in the air again so as of yesterday I've been carrying some of my gear with me. And then finally at one point I was able to take some decent pictures. I haven't been posting a whole lot here yet but feedback is always welcome. I always try to find the balance between sharpness, composition and dynamic range in a picture. To me, movement of rotors, prop blur, is most important in these kind of shots as then you'll see some kind of movement. Trade off obviously is having to have a steady hand which, wearing ski shoes on a slope, is an excercise in it's own.

Wow, "Cool"!
But seriously, I like both the effort and the result. The last one is awesome.

Hehe, true that! Fingers freezing off. And thanks for the compliments. Got a whole lot of white out pictures, trouble of course is you can't read any serials or anything of them, but maybe I'll head over to the arty-farty thread for a couple moreKey wrote:"Cool"

Re: Winter operations Austrian Air Force
k, now for real the last one
Cannot recall ever having seen this phenomana, a helicopter producing contrails... and I know I've seen some! This was taken the day before the other images, when I was in the hotel allready. I can only assume it's the same AB212, as it has the same broken right hand side ski. Now that i think about it, pictures I took last year also where of an AB212 with a broken right hand side ski. have to look that one up when I get back home.
Exposure time: 1/500
F-Number: f/11
Focal length: 400 mm
(no prop blur this time, was hoping to be able to make out the serial this time hehe)
@ebauer, you're so right! I've been blessed with good weather, military aviation, a wife waiting patiently for me to finish the shots (it took off and landed a couple of times, been at that spot for I guess about 30 to 45 minutes)... pretty much I can ask for on a day

Re: Winter operations Austrian Air Force
Thanks everyone for the positive reactions, that's quite the ego boost especially @jimmy, judging by your posts & pictures, you're about the absolute expert on taking pics of helicopters. As EHGR officially is my home base, I really should go try hang out at and around the base more.
