Johor Bahru, Malaysia (WMKJ/JHB) - 2010 CIV

Post by Optimus »

Making a stop here before flying to Kota Kinabalu, the following was noted:
5U-ACF B747-146SR Logistics Air all white cs
5U-ACG B747-146SR Logistics Air
N4.. L-100-30 Lynden Air
9M-AFJ A320-216 Air Asia our plane to Kota Kinabalu
9M-FYC ATR72-212A Firefly
9M-MQP B737-46J Malaysia Airlines

A rather quiet airport in the deep south of Malaysia. Both jumbos and the Hercules were parked at the large hangar, as well as an unread Shorts Skyvan. The MAS B737 probably followed us from Penang.

They are currently very busy expanding and renovating the airport as they are probably expecting a lot of extra traffic mainly due to Air Asia and its close location near Singapore.

All was seen from airside. However, there is a possibility to see the maintenance area from the ticketing office on the second floor. Things can only get better here once the new terminal opens.

As they have quite a long runway, Singapore Airlines regularly uses JB (as the locals call it) for touch and go's.

Regards,

Kees
