Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi (VTBS/BKK) - 2009 MIL

Post by passat man »

Bangkok 19th December 2009

I have just visited Bangkok and as we took off saw a range of aircraft from the VIP sqdn, C130 area etc

can anyone shed light on the layout and positioning of aircraft from the VIP aqdn, to what looked ike the police area at the other far end.

Also I have been trying to find out how many of each type there are based/stored at BKK around now.

I know its a long shot, but I may be able to add to my logged aircraft by viewing photos and counting machines!!

Er,no C-130s,etc at Suvarnabhumi.

Are you sure you didn't depart from Don Muang?.

If you flew on Nok or One-to Go,you were flying out of Don Muang.

Drinking too many Singhas?.

Message was posted as just 'Bangkok', with BKK in the text. Wrong assumption apparently made by me, moved into VTBD now.

HI All,

Has anyone recent experience of Dn Muang?

I am still trying to identity which units are based where.

If anyone can clear that up for me that would be great

The same military and government units are still based at DMK.

RTAF Wing 6 comprising of 601 Sqn with 12 C-130H/C-130H-30,602 Sqn with the VIP assets,603 Sqn with the new ATR-72s,at least 3 HS-748 and the surviving 3 G-222,604 Sqn with the T-41D,CT/4 and 3 of the new DA42.The Police are still at the southern end of the field.

A small Army unit(1 Av Regt) has 2 Bell 206B these were checked and still the long term residents 4422 and 4448 were here on 02 November.3 S-300C should also be here, but have not been checked for a while, but they have been 1340,1341 and 1366 for ages.

The US Embassy Bangkok C-12C has changed when 76-0171(ex USE Jakarta)arrived as Titus 99 on 04 October 2009.The long term resident C-12C 73-1214 could well be on overhaul and may return here.

There are some stored PC-6 on the police ramp, plus at least one Skyvan.I can't remember the serials at this time, but they've been here for a long while. Also 3 stored Bell 205.

On November 02 PC-6s 1604,1605,1606,1608 and 1609 were noted outside, plus Skyvans 21897 and 21902.The latter example,I believe to be the stored example.SD3-30 25099 is usually outside as well. All of these types fly rarely if at all now.

Just north of the police ramp, the 2 army Beech 1900C-1,0169 and 0170 are both stored outside.
