nice pics!
what kind of mm do you need to picture those planes from that distance?
I know that if you go closer the fence is in front of the planes....
Greetings Ton

No more than 120 mm according to EXIF. Judging by Google Eart, it's 350 meters or so to the planes.Nozem wrote:nice pics!

Re: Sydney november 2009
Indeed that's a better spot but you need a high ladder to get over the fence and I didn't have one with me and didn't feel the need to buy one. Besides putting a ladder in a Huyndai Getz isn't that easy.Captain-floris wrote:You can see here also some spotters near the fences Maybe that's a better spot
I read on a websit that putting a ladder too close to the fence (< 3meters) could lead to problems with security but during my visit I didn't get the impression that this is true.
Problem in Sydney are heatwaves. Eventhough it was just the start of spring downunder, heatwaves were enormous during sunshine so taking pictures of smaller aircraft is difficult but during my 5 day visit I made most of the smaller aircraft as well.
I'll try to post some more shots in the next few days.

Re: Sydney november 2009
For the spot on the beach about 100 - 150 mm is more than enough for a side-on shot of a 747. For a 737 you'll need about 200 mm. More mm are almost useless because of heatwaves.Nozem wrote:nice pics!

The morningshots (like the Army Beech) are taken from a small hill which is just about high enough not to see the fence in your shots as long as traffic is either small when using the first taxiway (Army Beech) or is using the second taxiway (Air Vanuatu).
Making shots from the hill is difficult because of recenty placed lightpoles (needed for 'security reasons').
For traffic on the runway or departing traffic in the morning (Lan Chile or Air Niugini) you'll need about 150 - 200mm.
All shots are taken around runway 34R / 16L or the taxiways along this runway. Traffic using 34L / 16R has to use the taxiways close to the 'morning position' so in the morning you won't miss a thing from that spot. In the afternoon making shots from the spot along the beach of traffic using 34L / 16R is almost impossible because of heatwaves / distance / heightdifference etc, etc.
