Re: No Dutch Air Force air show in 2012!!!!
Well don't count on that one... They have a SERIOUS problem raising the funds for next year... So i think this year was the first and perhaps the last time ever we saw a Vulcan fly in Europe...aviodromefriend wrote:That might happen anyway next year (if the mighty V says "OFF COURSE I WANNA BE THERE" to their request).
800.000 Pounds per year only for Staff payments!!! (excluding the Pilots)...

"Bovendien blijven de krijgsmachtdelen die een jaartje vrijaf hebben zichtbaar voor het grote publiek", stelt het ministerie. "De marine presenteert zich volgend jaar ook op de publieksdagen van de land- en luchtmacht."Arjan wrote:According to an article in a Dutch newspaper (http://www.telegraaf.nl/binnenland/5572 ... html?p=5,2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), the Dutch MoD will cancel one of their public days each year. Normally they have an open day for each service Army, Airforce and Navy. This will mean that in 2010 the Navy days in Den Helder will be cancelled. 2011 will keep the army in their barracks and the worst of all, 2012 will see no airshow of our Airforce.
A very unfortunate choice for defensecuts and a big, big loss for the airshowcircuit in 2012!
It will be awesome to see HM Walrus at the static display at Volkel in 2013!
Greetings, Paul
P.s. 100yrs KLu at Volkel... not bad!

At Volkel you had both together. Traffic jams and static cars and taxi (busses) constantly in front of the runway , blocking the view. Extremely annoying! Can't they drive the VIP's from another side??????topgun1984 wrote:Well i don't mind static aircraft in front of my nose... BUT I DO MIND TRAFFIC JAMS!!!! that's the thing im most conceringing about.

Actually, following http://www.vulcantothesky.org/results, and especially the speed of the money coming in, I think they are more on track on collecting the money then ever before. (and those GBP 800.000 are not only for staff payments, it is part of the complete costs for a full year including the complete wintermaintenance, designing the extra needed modification due to the fatique life, that has not been found in other income.topgun1984 wrote:Well don't count on that one... Make them believe that your change of law is brought about by European legislation. That'll do the trick.....Polecat wrote:i'd say: change the law, and charge a small fee...
It is absurd indeed that the " Rijksmuseum" may charge a fee, but the Defence Museum can't.

Re: Defence cuts in the Netherlands affect one Open Day per year
Guys - I know that it is not the best topic for such question but can you please recommend me a clean and cheap hotel near Gilze-Rijen Airbase (I am looking forward to Luchtmachtdagen 2010 )? I found quite cheap one in Breda called Premier Classe (next to Campanile) but before I make a reservation I would like to make some research...
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Walrus might not be the biggest problem. What about transporting the LPDs (or in the future the JSS) to an airbase in Brabant?jp 74 wrote:As an ex navy man i don't appriciate a sub in front of an active runwayIt will be awesome to see HM Walrus at the static display at Volkel in 2013!
