As I scan my older material I will from time to time post civil aircraft images here. Please feel free to add your own shots of operational aircraft taken in the same time frame.

Starting off we have L.1011 N323EA at KJFK 27 Apr 1974.
To me this is an imperfect shot in that I have obstructed the center engine intake and "Whisperjet" logo with the starboard wing. It will have to do, time and progress have marched well beyond the Tristar.

Wonderful shots, Rob. You have a super collection. There's not much of that iron left in recognizable form, I suspect. I may have lifted one or two in the form of a beer can after they went through the smelter.

Not heavy iron here in this shot, but perhaps interesting just the same.

It's been a long time since I saw one of these. Perhaps not a money-maker for Grumman, but the Gulfstream I experience helped put the manufacturer in a good position at the high end of the executive marketplace when the jet Gulfstreams came along.

Time flies, she'd be 40 by now.
Still very interesting to see that the background of this shot has changed very little over the years.
Have a few shots taken at Logan a couple of years ago, looking similar.

And here, on a better day, we have DC-8-32 YV-C-VIE of Viasa at JFK 27 April 1974. This is msn 45377, a turbojet powered aircraft at the time of this photo. Broken up in Miami in 1996 according to internet sources.



FlyUSAirways-I believe the Sel-Cal is assigned to a particular oceanic crossing. So when you say SELCAL: JM-AB, I think it was just for a certain moment in time, agreed?

Maybe not and old and black picture from the sixties but the aircraft N720H Boeing 720B is sure built in that era. She's gone now unfortunately nobody picked it up for to put it on display - a rare oppertunity missed i would say.

Nice Rockwell B.720 shots, USAir. It would have been nice if a museum wanted to pick it up.

Great selection, Rob. My brother-in-law crewed some Trans International flights back when. I think he may have been on a TI B.747.

I always liked the L.188 Electra. Once in the early 1960s I wrote to Lockheed asking for a photo of an Electra. I wasn't specific enough, as they sent me a shot of (I think it was) the Lockheed 12 Electra, the old twin radial job from the 1930s. Oh well.

The airline industry in my part of the world has been dominated by twin-engine types for a long time now. I'm reminded of this when I come across a slide like this one, of Boeing B.747-135 G-AWNB at Boston's Logan airport on 5 August 1972
