Spotting Ching Chuan Kang AFB, Taiwan

Post by Hikotai »

End November we'll stay in Taipei. It seems, that the Ching Chuan Kang AFB near the city of Taichung is the nearest military base.
Do someone have spotting-experiences regarding this base (traffic, spots, police etc.)?

Thank you!

Don't forget Hsinchu (Mirage 2000). That base is a lot closer than CCK. I stood in the approach to Hsinchu (OK, in 2000) among dozens of Taiwanese and had no problems.

The closest base is Sungshan. Here you have the B1900 and Fokker 50's and if you are lucky the B737. And of course every day 1 or more C130's.

Next is Taoyuan naval base with the S2T. But you need a lot of patience and luck if you want to see these.

Hsinchu is about one hour drive from Taipei. On Saturdays and Sundays there are always a lot of local spotetrs around the base and taking photos is not a problem. On weekdays it could be different.

CCK is about two hours drive from Taipei. I never had problems there, but I heard that not so long ago somebody was arrested there.

Hello

Another option for good spotting is Tainan further south, but it is easy to fly there or go by surface transport(if you don't want to drive) and hire a small motorcycle in the city, then go to the southern approach there(they nearly always land from that direction).I have been there many times and have never had any problem.Gangshan is nearby, and they also fly there well.

The same goes for Chaiyi 80 Km north of Tainan.

At Tainan photos can be taken with (probably) no problem.
