Airfield Guide (Photo's) Japan: Tsuiki
Konichiwa (or something like it)
Last year we visited the mighty islands of Japan. And what an experience it was. For those of you who have Japan on their wish list, I’ve tried to make an overview of the places we visited. To start with Tsuiki. Maybe it's of any help.
In order of appearance:
-Overview of base surrounding
-Overview of runway end with spotters places
-Overview of runway end with arrows pointing out the “picture taken at” location and direction.
-Overviewpictures a to …
-Aircraft pictures with “real” millimeters. (lens 400mm x camera 1.6 gives 640mm)
c&c’s are welcome.
Base surrounding
Spot 1, 2 and 3
Viewing directions a to e
Spot 1 a): looking at spot 2 and 3. Spot2 is about 15m into the bushes along the fence. Spot 3 is where the guy is standing. Concerning the stories about the blue-black-red-yellow spiders around Hyakuri…you’ll find them throughout entire Japan. Big, colorful and….harmless.
Spot 1: F-2A 160mm
Spot 1: T-4 275mm
Spot 1: F-15J 440mm on runway
Spot 2: F-15J 210mm
Spot 2: F-15J 135mm
Spot 3 b) The famous quay
Spot 3 c)
Spot 3 d)
Spot 3 e)
Spot 3: F-15J 640mm
Spot 3: F-15J 515mm
Spot 3: YS-11EB 455mm
Spot 3: YS-11EB 115mm
Spot 3: F-15J 420mm on runway
Spot 3: F-15DJ 530mm
Hope it's of any use...
Also available(but than in google earth maps): Nyutabaru, Iwakuni, Akeno, Hamamatsu, Gifu, Iruma, Hyakuri and Shimofusa

Very nice pics, the F-15's look great when taken almost as low as from wheel-level!
Though I have no intention to visit Japan, great report and I'm sure this is of great help to anyone wanting to go there!

So, apparently P. gave mm as 'lens focal length x 1.6 crop factor'.
Great going, very helpful to all interested. Arigato gozai-masu!

Great pictures & lay-out charts. Great memories for me too, although when I was there a few years back, the F-2's were all grounded... I'm hoping to see them in October!

Make sure not to drown in your baby bath, Polecat! Just kidding of course. There is lots to be seen outside of Japan, I know.Polecat wrote:Very nice pics, the F-15's look great when taken almost as low as from wheel-level!

Great overview of the spotting places, although I missed the parking space and viewing area on the 07 end.
Looking forward to see more descriptions like this.
Leeuwarden, you are waaaay of the mark with focal lengths
Tsuiki can be done with 100-150 mm from the quay side, the taxiway shots would be with around 100 mm.
A C-1 on the runway would be about 200 mm from the quay side.
For some reason, Japan has the reputation of requiring many mm's. Nothing is further from the truth! Maybe because Japanese colleagues appear at RIAT etc. with big lenses. They just always liked action shots over long distances, even back when we were elbowing ourselves in crowds of 100+ people into a spot next to a sitting jet to shoot it 100 times with 50 mm on Kodachrome 25....
Hans.

Lenses used are 70-200 and 100-400, so he describes it in real / analog mm's (as everybody should do!)
Re: Airfield Guide (Photo's) Japan: Tsuiki
Glad you appreciate.
For those who it brings back memories, I hope they are pleasant ones…
Concerning the millimeters; Key, you pointed out exactly what I meant.
For the completeness sake: I took the F-2A at spot 1 with 100mm x the crop1.6 gives 160mm. So if you have a non-digital camera or a camera without crop, you would need 160mm on your lens to take the same picture from the same spot.
The equipment I used? See below.
Up next will be Shimofusa
