Request AMARG

Just wondering if one of you recently has visited AMARG (aka Boneyard) and wrote down the buno's of the remaining F-14 Tomcats.
I have some buno's on file I know they should be still there but a complete list would be nice.

Hi, I did. All the Tomcats and Phantoms along Kolb Road have been moved, their place taken by C-130s. If I saw any F-14s at all, they're on photos I still have to go through...

The Norwegian aircraft were delivered under FMS.
Maybe a chance on future sale, although the Norwegians experienced quite some trouble with the wing boxes.

In reference to the Norwegian C-130's at AMARG

The Norwegian Herc's in question are :

956 , 957

Parked alongside Kold Rd (ex. F14 dispersal).

They are already assigned the PCN for AMARG will have these for you shortly.

Hi,

Anyone knows the current status of the USAF Learjets?
How many are currently stored out there and are these visible (and readable) from outside the fence?

Two years ago we did a photo flight over AMARC, but Davis-Monthan will not allow lingering photo flights (with example Sonoran Wings) over AMARC anymore (although they can get close to it according their website).

Thanks in advance for any help.

The C-21As are easily readable from along the Kolb Road fence!

Maybe you know this one already.
http://www.amarc.info/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It did help me a lot a on and a half year agoo, I was lucky that they did an update just before I fisit AMARC.
I took pics from the air, and compared them with this list. Witch was 100% correct as far as I could match it.

Especially the F14`s where right.

Indeed it looks like they downsize the F14`s quickly.
On this list there are a few at area 21, 24, but is not half as much as one and a halve year agoo.

On Area 21 I saw that time almost 20 F14`s, witch are halfsized now.
On Area 24 where during my fisit no F14`s, so it looks like that they moved the ones close to Kolb road (Area 10) to this place.

Good luck

Just by the line of B-1s on 05 Jan was a double line of Tomcats, 29 in total, which those of you with a very good imagination might be able to make out from the attached - if I can work out how to post an image into this site!

Doesn't seem to have worked, but if it has, ignore the date!

Hi all,

Been at AMARG last week (Friday 13th of March). Before taking the AMARG tour we drove past the rows of C-130's. At the time 3 Norwegian C-130's were outside (954, 956 and 957). Close to the main gate. Later on, while taking the tour, 2 were gone from the line.... (leaving 957 if we are not mistaken)
I have not been able to check my pictures yet, so I don't know if they moved them to the other Herc's, or to another place.

Also not been able to check the Tomcats, but there were not that many anymore. We saw a lot of learjets together, so once I have checked my pictures, I can say more about the serials.

request bustour AMARG

Post by Flanker »

hi there,

I will be visiting AMARG next month.
Any suggestions on what lens to use during the bustour to make some decent pictures of the parked a/c ?
lenses available: 17-85, 24-105, 70-200 and 100-400mm on Canon D20 and D5Mk2

thanks

Hi Coert,

I've done the tour before and I can recommend you better use two camera's if you can. If you can't, than 17-85 or 24-105 would probably be best to use. This because most aircraft are quite close to the bus and you can use it to give a good impression of al the rows of aircraft down there and of course celebrity row.

However, I had used the 17-70 for that and the 100-400 for aircraft further away and for the detail shots. The bustour is rather bumpy at the end, so I would recommend a 70-200 and preferably some form of IS/OS.

Good luck!

Cheers,

Same here. Did it with a 24-70 and 70-200, both on 1.5 cropping bodies, which was OK for focal length. As pointed out before, avoiding window reflections is the biggest challenge. If you are lucky, there will be enough room to move left and right during the tour to make the most of the display row. During the second part of the tour, speed is generally too high to move left and right - but the return trip follows the same route.
