ex Italian SF260 at Luxembourg?
saw this orange "thing" today at the cargo ramp, on the crate "54531" was written and that number could belong to MM54531, a SF260 offered for sale by the Italians. It arrived as airfreight and was loaded onto a German truck. Any confirmation of a serial etc. is welcome!
sorry for the very, very bad quality as I had to shoot trough a double fence...

On the wooden bulkhead you can see a label with, I believe the AWB number : looks like 172-.... 6433. Maybe you check it on the picture and on the Cargolux website (172 is cargolux). Then you have an idea where it is heading to!

It departed by truck and I suspect it came in on a cargo flight from Milan.

hoi Peter,
Super for posting these photos of the SF.260AM at Luxembourgh.
It was an arrival from Milano ? So by truck it would be going either to Germany, Belgium or Netherlands ??
Time will tell, where this SF.260 appear.
best regards,
Hendrik van der Veen

Re: ex Italian SF260 at Luxembourg?
It would not be very logical (and it is expensive) to send a airplane by airfreight in Europe. So it would have flown from Milan to Luxembourg and then be trucked to somewhere in Europe. This would have better be done by truck alone. My guess it left Europe or it re-entered it!

It was offloaded from a Cargolux 747 and loaded onto a German Truck with a licence-plate starting with "PS" (which is Pirmasens, about 100km east of Luxembourg). Isaw the truck leave the airport heading for the highway.vanderveen wrote:Did you notice the licence plate, where was this truck coming from, which country ?

Re: ex Italian SF260 at Luxembourg?
The Los Angeles based company Airpower International bought 15 SF.260AM aircaft from the Aermacchi factory, for resale in the USA.
An unknown number of airframes have been shipped to Los Angeles, USA, some have been sold.
It is possible that MM54531 was shipped to Los Angeles, only to be sold after a few years, somewhere in Europe. Which might explain the air cargo part.
There might still be some dismantled SF.260AM's in the Aermacchi factory at Venegono awaiting a buyer. At least two aircraft were transported from Venegono to an Italian owner in the Verona area.
To my knowledge, only the second and third batch of the SF.260AM are available for resale to the second hand market.
Survivors of the first batch are intended for spare parts and/or scrap metal.

checked the airway-bill number and found out it arrived in Luxembourg from Los Angeles. That might clear things a bit.
