Question about lens

Post by jaah »

Hi

I'm thinking about buying Nikons 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S VR DX for static displays, museums and allround tourist use.
I would like to hear from you if you have any experiences with this lins.

Thank you.

I think it is a pretty good lens, looking at these 307 reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-18-200mm-3- ... ewpoints=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sometime ago I asked the same:

http://www.scramble.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=51748" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Although the single reaction in the topic was a bit negative about the lens (which I dont get, even if I read the reviewlink), but the reaction via pm was better inmho. Plus I recieved photos which helped me deciding to buy it or not. And now I have it in my bag and I love it. Yes it has vignettering but it is a very sharp lens.
Cheers, Michel

If you don't need the long end and want better IQ, try this:

http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/46-niko ... 685_3556vr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also 2mm wider 8)

I know but I was looking for something with wide zoom range, so I don't have to change lens so much.

Then go for it, almost a million people have done so:
According to http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; there are at least 45480 original Japanese Nov 05 200 serial number sold, at least 40,000 Feb 06 2100 serial number sold, and at least 881,000 2500 series (now at at least 3388***) sold.
If you have later serial numbers let the site know - 1,000,000 units could be achieved this year
Digressing for those new to Nikon this site is good for estimating the age of second hand lenses.
Whether a change in serial number indicates an internal upgrade is something I cannot confirm.

Personally, its IQ is not up to my standard.
