Frisian Flag - EHLW 16-04-09

Post by VinFlyer »

On thursday, April 16th the Leeuwarden AFB organized a press day during Frisian Flag 2009. First we got a short briefing by the Project Officer of Frisian Flag, telling us about FF history and about this edition. This year some Air Forces had to cancel, leaving the following participants:

RNLAF: 18 x F-16 and 1 x F-50
USAFE: 4 x F-15
RNoAF: 1 x DA-20 (Jamming)
GFD: 2 x Learjet (Jamming)

Other participants among others are the Dutch Army with FAC teams and the Ducth Navy with one Fregat. Also the Patriots participate both from Leeuwarden AFB and from Vlieland. This years FF is for training with the Link 16 system, used by the participating parties. Supported by the FF Project Officer and "Buro Voorlichting" we where allowed to take pictures during taxi/take-off/landing and during our tour at the Patriots. All in all we had a nice day at the field, here some pictures to share it with you.

Great set! But can you resize them to 800pix, that will make it easier to view them.

I agree,
To all spotters, please don't take pictures at Dutch Airbases with all kind of infrastructure in the back ground. For example at EHLW there are some special places where spotters are allowed to take pictures. That's it. Please respect the rules at any Airforce base!

Greetz,

Eibert

I'm assuming he was on base and they would have said something to him if it wasn't allowed?

I'm sorry maybe a little bit off topic, but I feel that I have to react.

I do absolutely not agree with this, it's not possible for the Air Force to keep an eye on every visitor to the base.
As a visitor you must obey the rules :!: .
As said in another reaction in this topic there are some points on the airbase from where you are allowed to take pictures (for sure these are no flightline pics) and that's it :!:

Yep, there was the usual guidance by several persons from 'voorlichting' that day.

We didn't want to do the flightline again, just like the previous years. Otherwise there would have been more flightline pics of the F-15s, instead of take-off and landing.

My reaction wasn't meant as 'betweterig', thanks for clearing it up :) I have never been on base on (official) occasions other than the Open Days so I don't know how things go on spotterdays. I have been on base (at Soesterberg for example) with my dad, just visiting, but I almost never took pictures then and the pictures I did take are for myself and do not find their way to the internet. Just thought maybe the RNLAF made exceptions for spotterdays and such.
Thank you :)

Just one question.. confirm you could take flightline pictures under supervision of "voorlichting" but you (and others) choose not to do so?
For me this is an major important awnser to know.. thanks!
Sorry Cris, and others, for the commotion. I should have typed that the photos where taking during the press day, and all pictures where taken under supervision of voorlichting (I already adjusted my story with my pictures). So I have nothing to do with spottersgroup or what so ever. I know spotters and personnel (and visitors like the KNVOL) have a more strict rules to live by when it comes down to photography. And I can confirm that there was the option to take flightline pictures if time permitted. But in the end we choose to take pictures of landing instead. That one picture of the F-15 on the flightline I took after approval of the nice lady of buro voorlichting :D
