spotting op Gilze
Hi all,
Question: is it possible and worth the time om for Friday 20th February, to be spotting at Gilze at the Langebergse weg just like the old times neatly beside the yellow signs for the Stop-verbod, and catch some Chinooks, Cougars and Apaches with 300mm?
Or is there another new best point to caths them on film/plates?
Greetings,
Stafsels

Re: spotting op Gilze
It should be a normal flying day, sow the chance to catch choppers is normal like allways on Gilze
Re: spotting op Gilze
You won't see a lot of Cougars and Chinooks.

Why don't you go to "the Slopes"? On the Langebergseweg you can only see the 301 platform, but nothing else. On the slopes you can see (not every day though) some more activity. And 300mm is enough too!
I've shot some great pics over there!

Re: spotting op Gilze
On what days they fly the most?
Are there any times to take off like volkel and leeuwarden?
And if they fly is there always activity on the slopes?

Based on my limited experience at Gilze (2 visits, only this year):
Weekdays.mitchell wrote:On what days they fly the most?
No they fly pretty much 'all day long', but mornings can be a bit quiet (because of night flying activity).mitchell wrote:Are there any times to take off like volkel and leeuwarden?
Difficult to tell in advance, but in general I think you can expect some activity every day. In the worst case you have to be happy with one chopper, but even then it can be worth it to go there..mitchell wrote:And if they fly is there always activity on the slopes?

Re: spotting op Gilze
In fact, I'd say there's a huge chance you won't see any helicopters at all that friday. They're all gone on exercises. Or broken, lol.

Thanks all for the replies,
With all on "oefening" elsewhere I will change my date.
One question remain: what are the slopes; how to get to them and how wanted are we as aviation enthousiasts when standing there?
Greetings,
Stafsels

The slopes are some tiny hills on witch the helicopters practice landings on hill sides. You can get pretty nearby. I don't know if your way around the airbase, but you need to get to the road called "Klein Zwitserland" witch runs parallel to the highway A58 (south side of the airfield). From this road you have some small farmers road to the fence near runway 02-20. It is also possible to continue this road untill the intersection, then continue on "Lijndonk", then to "Moleneind" and from there it's also possible to follow a small road near the fence to the slope area.
These are the only ways to get to the slopes I know, maybe somebody else knows another way.
