Indeed, love this c/s more than she now has
I did hear that she still has got troubles because of the paint the used in this c/s. It was some kind of carpaint, and wasn't ment to put on a helo, does anybody know more about this store?
Regards,
Sven

That problem is solved because they removed all the carpaint at the company where the S-454 was painted grey.

The KLU is not the only air arm that can be a bit anal with regards to special paintschemes. They are probably better than others such as the Royal Danish Air Force. Remeber the danish Draken that had special paint schemes before disbanding some 10-15 years ago? All hell broke loose at Karup Air Base and public appearances were banned by the RDAF, even at the last air show with active Drakens at thier home base.Polecat wrote: what a pity some people at the KLu-staff could not appreciate this "sonderlackierung"...

too bad that some people won't allow a bit of fun in their lives... as a friend of mine always says about these easily agitated people: "they probably have long toes (to step on) but short willies...."The KLU is not the only air arm that can be a bit anal with regards to special paintschemes. Still, always good that some spotters document these one-off aircraft!

Re: The secret pictures of S-454
3 Years ago 300 sqn received an inventation of the organisation of the Tiger Meet to join that years Tiger Meet. 300 Squadron was thrilled about that and started to request at the highest air force authorities to paint a Cougar. They wanted to use the Cougar to go to the Tiger Meet, as well as to go to several air shows in Europe. Finally, after a month or two, 300 sqn got a go to start the painting. In the mean time 300 sqn made a scetch and a deal with the paint shop in Twenthe, who were going to paint the Cougar. S-454 was chosen because it had to go to Woensdrecht in the end of the year for maintenence and modifications. The modification were crucial to fly at missions abroad, so the helo was only suitable at the time for training. That means that choosen this helo wouldn't affect any missions. The S-454 was flown to Twenthe where it was painted in a few weeks (see pics above). The day before 300 sqn would fly the helo to EHSB they heard that the commander of the RNLAF was furious about the painting and ordered to fly the helo low level, with radio silinence and after 16:00 (closing of the base). Appearently the highest air force staff approved the painting without informing the Chief in Command himself. So they flew it back, placed it in the hangar at 300 sqn. After a few months unservicable they repainted it back at EHSB. I can say that whole 300 sqn was pretty upset about the decision of the General.JeffreyM wrote:Seems i have missed something about a sad story? What is it?

Thanks for sharing this. If I remember well,(and sorry if I mixed up) there were more a/c painted (or with stickers) in a special way that year. Like the KDC-10 and the "Football" F-16. All had to remove their special marks
Ironic, The Chief commander received that year at a special book launch a coverage of 25 years F-16 in special colors

Re: The secret pictures of S-454
Exactly, that was bathering us the most. It looked like F16 sqn's could paint F16's for every occasion they want. Then 300 sqn came for the first time asking authorisation to paint a Cougar (ok....the 459 flew with a green cougar tailart for a long time..... ) First they approved and after a lot of work and finishing painting a whole Cougar, Mr. General rejects it again. It was pretty painfull I can say. As a revenge I called some spotters at the day we picked up the s-454 at twenthe and I towed the helo to a spot on the field where it couls be photgraphed very well. We even did a very slow take off on purpose.... A few hours later the first pictures could be found on the internet!gold wrote:Thanks for sharing this.
