Great pics of some great planes Stephan. That first Dak looks rather 'modified'. Definitely a country on my 'to-do' list, both for aircraft and nature. By the way, great South African Lightning shots in your other topic!

Yes, we went to SA unprepared, so we were surprised as well. We saw 01, 02, 03 and 04 at Ysterplaat airshow. We were told they are all being flown by Swedish crew.

On April 30th, the South African Air Force received and accepted its first new Gripen fighter aircraft opening a new chapter in the forces modernisation and transformation. South Africa has ordered 26 modern Gripen fighters for its front-line air defence and fighter requirement – 9 dual-seat and 17 single-seat.

check this link for additional info about the offical handover on the first day of the biennial Africa Aerospace and Defence show at Ysterplaat AFB on the 17th of september.

Thanks a lot, so it seems it is not weird I missed it. I just happened recently. In that case Stephan was extra lucky!

Wow! Great selection here! All very good shots; sharp and good exposure.
Composition could have been better sometimes, but thats something you cannot always master yourself.......

The Mirage and Gripen are great
:agree: And I wanna add the 3rd and 11th pic :!:

And indeed these 4 Gripens (01,02,03,04) are already active in the SAAF. The 5th one (05) I saw this wednesday at Linköping-Saab at the SAAB factory!

I'd rather depict atmosphere and the 'heat of the moment' making a catchy photo than to reflect the real situation and real colours showing a boring photo.

Wow great pics, the SAAF still has some diverse hardware.
Specially like the dubble Cougar shot.

Also missed the Gripen memo BTW
Great to see them flying. Now let´s hope the next ones have KLu roundels
