AMARC and surroundings past and present
Forum rules
This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |

In the eighties you had the famous saturday tours, each month you had one from 9 -12 a.m. Starting of with a slow drive over the DM ramp before entering the AMARC area. You were allowed to go out of the bus at several spots for 15 minutes. They used the classic airforce busses so there was no problem photographing from the bus.
Yeah i sure remember those days, a lot of sweating and a lot of k64/25 slides. Wish i could have gone digital in those days.

Some more 89 shots, all scanned from slides.
And Dino, this was indeed one of those tours, i think it was the last year they organised it (not caused by me).
And to be honest, AMARC was at the end of a one month USA tour, it was bloody hot, and at that time i was glad the tour was over.
By now i have a different view on this day.

Great topic!
These are from last february. Still loads of phantoms and a-10's about and quite some tomcats too.
All taken from outside the fence and from a cessna. We also took the last bustour on a friday but unfortunately it was one of the rare rainy days in Tucson. A pity if one sees the great pictures here that were taken from the closed bus...

ok, guess we were lucky to have seen some then. Apparantly they're afraid the Iranians will get hold of spare partsTomcat01 wrote:Jelmer,
You are completely right, there are still a lot of a10's , F-4's and f14's left at amarc but in 2005 a lot of them were close to the fence at Kolb. Last August most of them were gone (scrapped or moved elsewhere) and replaced in that area by c130's.
What really surprised me were the T-33's that were still there. What could be the reason for keeping those oldtimers around???
