Hi,the MB.339 code (2) was the MM54487!can anybody help me with the serial of the crashed mig-29 that was prak on a trailer of the other side on the airfield.

It does indeed help. If it was in that hangar then I know that I couldn't have seen it from the public area.

I also managed to miss the preserved aircraft near the cafe/bar (even though I knew they should be there). I came in the main gate with the MIG-21 on a pole. For the benefit of next time (I'm sure I'll be back!), where exactly was the best spot to see them?

I'vs spotted another mystery when I was going through my photos. I've got a taxi shot of the Finnish F-18 after his display and in the background, parked next to the display Belgian A109 (in the direction of the runway) is another light helicopter, parked tail on. It has skids rather than wheels and its not the Gendarme EC-145 that landed around that time. Any ideas?

I think that you saw Mi-2 HA-BCL which was also parked in this area.

That would have been my guess also - except that it's parked on the opposite side of the Belgian (and is also ruled out since its got wheels).

@ PIK Flyer

The cafe/bar is situated only a few hundred metres to the left of the main gate with the pole mounted MIG-21. There is some kind of big iron fence with a sign of the bar on it. If you walk along the side of this building you can see them pretty easy. If you walk a bit further along the main road you can see them from the other side.

for the helicopter you saw... I don't know for sure but this might have been another A109. I remember we saw a civil one next to this belgian one. I don't know if this one was fitted with skids or wheels.

You saw the Gendarme/Eurocopter EC145 that was parked there for about 15 minutes exactly at the time when the Finnish F-18 taxied back. BTW, the EC145 has skids.

Can anyone tell me which hangar this MIG-29 was in? I don't seem to have a note of it and its the only one I'm missing

This was indeed in the large hangar near the Turkish Stars line up. Apparently it was also visible trough the windows at the back of the hangar when you walked towards the C-17 (we missed that as well at the time).

Can't help with the other heicopter I'm afraid, other than saying it can't have been a (former) mil one since I'm sure all of those ended up in our notebooks!

Thanks Patrick (also Hilco & Fred) for all the additional info.

I now know that I've definately missed the MIG-29 in the hangar and I've got a better idea where to look for the preserved aircraft next time.

I guess the helicopter is destined to be a mystery - it's not the Gendarme EC-145 as I've got shots of him landing which are timed about 30 mins later (unless he went out and came back in again). It looks like a civil scheme, so I'm guessing that it's just the one that Hilco remembers. I think it must have landed during the time I was along at the C-17.

Anyhow, it's no big deal, I've tied up all my other queries, even found the crashed MIG-29 on a trailer in the background one of my photos - I didnt notice that on the day. Superb show - I think I'll be back.

(If I can figure out how to post photos, I'll try to crop in on the helicopter photo as a teaser!)

Based on it's looks I'm almost 99% sure, this is the one. Unless there are more helicopter painted the same as this one.

hey Rob and PIK Flyer,

That is the helicopter I meant. Now I see it is not an A109 but a A119. At the airshow we saw it from tail on and we noticed some difference between the two helos, now I know why ...

So for me a mystery is solved aswell.

The SK-61 was already mentioned by Patrick Dirksen as c/n 190 ex swedish AF 61072.

If I take a quick look at my own updated report I miss the following:

Serial of B-25 red Bull
ex mil serial of UTVA 66 YU-DOG
real serials of:
MIG-19PM "1978" PRESERVED NEAR CAFÉ/BAR
MIG-15 "1976" PRESERVED NEAR CAFÉ/BAR

And from the original report I am still hoping to find a lot of confirmed units (identified by markings)....
