Post by Someguyfromaustria »

Hi folks,

does somebody know if there are displays in 2008 with those 2 types in Sweden or abroad? I know there was an Airshow in 2006, but after that i did not hear anything about it. Tunnan is having technical problems i read on the jersey airshow page... I want to see it in the air, but where??? :)

Thxs for infos! If wrong section, pls move it!

Question to swedish Draken and Tunnan...

The Vampire ans Tunnan were scheduled for the Open Days at Leeuwarden, but due to technical problems this has been cancelled. The only Swedish historical jet at Leeuwraden might be the Hunter.

TF-35 Draken

Post by Stafsels »

Hi all,

Hopes it helpes: I can remember in the old old days 1996 or 1997 that there was another Draken still flying. It concerns an dualDraken, old Danish airforce, and flown by an civilian organisation.

After the warbirds airshow at Zoersel/Oostmalle that year (1996/1997) I can't remember seeing it fly after that. Perhaps you've got better luck with this one, if it still flies and we are not talking about the same aircraft.

Greetings,

Henk

I think you mean the OY-SKA

See http://www.abpic.co.uk/search.php?q=OY-SKA&u=reg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
which says that the C of A of this Draken expired in 1997.

I mean those 2 jets:

http://www.airliners.net/photo/Sweden-- ... 1214205/M/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Both made display at Satenas Airshow. Also the Lansen and Viggen did! So i think i have to visit next Satenas Airshow, if there will be one! :)

Regards Chris

PS: Swedish air force does not really like emails. No answer in 1 year onto several enquiries...

All the old Swedish fighters should appear at Göteborg Airshow in August.

I don't know if they will be flying though.

And at the Open House at Såtenæs on May 18th, there will be some old Swedish fighters as well. (According to the website, which is not very informative).

I just received an e-mail from F7 at Såtenæs:

There will be both static display as well as air display on Flottiljens Dag May 18.

In the air display that will start 13.00 you will see:
SK16
SAAB B17
J28 Vampire
J29 Tunnan
J32 Lansen
J34 Hunter
and, of course,
JAS 39 Gripen
There will also be a demonstration of Hkp10, Super Puma.

Most of these aircraft will also be on static display as well as C-130 Hercules.

According to their website the FSR 890 AEW&C plane will be on static.
Kind regards

Took a long time to find, fortunately I found in an old issue of AIRnieuws the civil registration of the Tunnan. The site of the swedish CAA gave this:

SCAA/ Aircraft/ Aircraft search/ Aircraft information
SE-DXB
Aircraft type SAAB J29F
Serial number 29670
Manufacture year 1955
MTOW 6665
C of A Expiry 2008-08-31
Date of registration 1995-07-07

Registered owner FLYGVAPENMUSEUM 581 98 LINKÖPING From 1995-07-07
Registred operator
Västgöta Veteranflygförening c/o Stellan Andersson Timmervägen 7 461 58 TROLLHÄTTAN From 2006-05-17

Maybe you can contact one of these? They might even know how to get in contact with people concerning the Draken.

From the museum's website some telephonenumbers:

Both the J 29 Tunnan and the J 35 Draken are scheduled to fly at the Göteborg Aero Show on August 30-31. Various formations are also planned.

As of today, the Draken is still on the ground waiting for ejection seat spare parts, but hopefully this will be solved during the summer.

Daniel, do you happen to know whether there are any developments regarding the plans to have one or perhaps two Viggens airworthy?

Thanks for all information given so far! :thumb:

The Viggens: Basically they are in airworthy condition. It's the paperwork (and the question of who will pay the bills) that keeps them on the ground.

With the latest proposed cuts in the Swedish defence budget, the Historic Flight will soon outnumber the active Gripens

According to the Danish Airshow website they won't be there. The Swedish Hawker Hunter and Harvard will be there and they will both do a flying display. But it sure would be nice if Draken and Tunnan showed up.
Kind regards

Jonas
