08.01.23-2223z---trek seems to be a special call sign, used for aircraft in traffics to beef up Rayong (Thailand), in preparation for a major mission...
The same happened to - for inst. - logistic and combat aircraft approaching Fairford prior to preparing the attack against Yugoslavia...

08.01.23-2234z---from Mar 29 1999 till Jun 16 1999 I logged 21 aircraft, - logistic, tankers and combat, - using the call sign riyal, en route to Fairford...
TREK is used for Joint Transport missions by any type of Transport aircraft (C-130, C-17, C-5) on Pacific transport sorties. It doesn't matter where too, they use it for Australian, Thailand, Japan, Guam, all over the Pacific.
RIYAL was only used by KC-135s during Allied Force on Air Refuelling missions. I Can't recall anything else using using RIYAL for other than air refuelling.
Basically all the Tanker aircraft were named after European and Asian currency... and not all operated from Fairford, they operated from various European airfields in UK, France, Germany, Netherlands and Italy.
Buck - VC-10 operating from Italy
Riyal - KC-135 operating from Fairford
Dinar - KC-135/KC-10 operating from Fairford / Frankfurt Main
Dime - KC-10 operating from Frankfurt Main
Drachma - KC-135 operating from Brize Norton
Euro - KC-135 operating from Istres
Guilder - KC-135 operating from Frankfurt Main
Lira - KCD-10 operating from Eindoven
Mark - KC-135 operating from Mildenhall
Money - KC-135 operating from Monte De Marsen
Nickel - KC-135 operating from Frankfurt Main

Trek callsigns are Yokota freight flights.
Since Elmendorf acquired C-17As,regular Trek C-17 flights take place within the PACAF area of operations.Trek 100 is a regular C-17A mission routing USA-Yokota-Paya Lebar(or sometimes U-Tapao)-Diego Garcia.Trek 101 is used for the reverse routing.
The Hawaii ANG C-17As also fly missions into Yokota and Kadena using Trek callsigns.
Trek 80 usually arrives at Yokota each Saturday from Hickham AFB.
36 AS,374 AW C-130H use 3 callsigns that I know of,
(1) Kanto for training flights.
(2) Repat for special missions into mainly Laos and Vietnam to recover the remains of MIAs from the various wars the US has been involved in since the end of the Second World War in Indochina.(PACAF C-17As also use this callsign).
(3) Trek for standard freight flights.
