Hi,
I cant write dutch, but I can read
At 21:13 last night (18/01/2007) a bright white flash from outside got my attention. I immediately looked out the window, and noticed a long flame ball behind a twin engined aircraft that had just departed Schipol. The flash was followed by a loud bang, and comming from SA, my first thought was that the plane got struck by lightning, but the weather was already clearing up. My guess is that something must have gone through the portside engine, as I noticed small burning particles after the flameball dispersed. This all happened in about 3 seconds though
Having only been in the Netherlands for 3 months now, I am not sure where I can go read up to see what happened.
Just curios
Regards
Wessel

Engine stall or possible bird strike?
Engine stall or possible bird strike?
Very possible! I am however still intrigued by the white flash, although, this was just observed indirectly, and could easily have been just a larger flame. So yes, I would guess engine stall, although I did not expect that to be associated with a loud bang, yet the photographer in the link you posted also noticed the sounds. Thanx, I would guess it was an engine stall then. Pity it was dark and rainy, as I could not identify the aircraft or even the livery.
Thanx!
Thanx!
Must have been incredible to see!!!! And to have been ready with the camera is really priceless I know how excited I was last night The noise was really loud, loud enough for my wife to have come running out of the bathroom asking if that was lightning!
Great shot!! (And good on you investing in canon heeheh)
@streep: A lightning strike was my first thought, but the weather had really started to clear, and did not look very electric at that stage. But I wont consider myself a specialist regarding dutch weather, I get surprised everyday

Here's a good example of lightning hitting a plane

I witnessed it with my own eyes while driving back to Servisair. the plane was indeed struck by lightning. and, if my memory doesn't let me down, it was a sterling B738.
It was exactly the same as in the video posted above. the only difference is that I saw it in a pitch black sky. And believe me; it was quite impressive
