Hi Frank
Read your report of last year and it brought back some great memories.
Hopefully this year will be just as good. I've been watching the various webcams of the area and its been snowing today. So long as the clouds get out of the way, this should help to reflect the light at the top.
Roll on Axalp 2007!!!!

Hallo gentlemen!
Some last minute questions due to evolution of plans...
About the parking place in Axalp. I am aware it is necessary to have a "permit", or license to use the parking place, and thai it is essential to be very early there in order to find a parking spot. The question: is it still possible to obtain such permit? How much does it cost? Where to get it?
Other quick question. It has been said already that the lift operation time starts at 08:00. During practice and show days any chance it will start operating any sooner? That would allow me to pack a little heavier load, maybe...
Thanks for all the information!

There is a Axalp 2007 Flyer here (PDF): http://www.swiss-sky.ch/up_to_date/pics ... 7_Info.pdf
The chair-lift will be open from 0730h - 14.00h / 16.00h - 18.00h

Well, going by my experiences last year. I'm not quite sure about the parking permit. We arrived at some ungodly hour while it was still dark and parked in the public car park, near the chairlift, paying in coins at the machine. Apparently, an hour or so later, the local authorities set up a pay station at the very bottom of the hill, near the motorway and took a small charge from everyone going up - they were then able to park in the fields etc around the village. In order to bring your car further up the hill (past the bottom of the chairlift) along the service road, it is probably necessary to have some kind of permit. It looked like there were plenty of spaces in the fields and there was one massive traffic jam at the end of the day. Bear in mind that most of the locals only arrive for the afternoon display.dolfo wrote: If the chairlift opens at 0730 I understand it is too late to see the morning practice from the top of the Ebenfluch or the Tschingel...

Regards timing, the flying starts about 08:30ish. If the chairlift starts running around 07:30, you probably wont be up in time for the first few runs but the flying continues for most of the morning, so its up to you whether you want to see every single run or not. Also we were told that the path to the main viewing area closed at 08:00 for safety reasons. This was not actually correct, they opened and closed it as appropriate during the firing runs - when there was no firing, they opened it back up again. This is of course relevant since the food and beer tent is in this area!!!!
All this is of course based on LAST YEAR but I see no reason why it should be different this time.
Just one final point for deciding whether to use the chairlift or not - it will cut about an hour off your walking time BUT its the easy bit that it cuts off - the gentle sloping road! The real climbing starts AFTER the end of the chairlift, nearer the top.
I must be mad, I'm doing it all again this year. My wife saw last years photos and insisted I take her. If you see a Scottish couple at the top, its probably us - come over and say hello.

Well, so even if we use the boring chairlift we will not miss the joy of the climb then... sounds promising!
How do I visually identify a Scottish couple? Kilt and bagpipe? Kidding, of course. I will be with some brazilian friends, and most likely be using a green hat, if it does any good.
Hope to see some of you nice people at the top!

Yes, good point - its a bit windy for the Kilt I'm afraid and the bagpipes might frighten the marmots I'll just listen for the sound of salsa music from your camp. My wife has bought a bright pink waterproof jacket for the climb so she should be quite easily recognised. She's also about 30cm shorter than me so I think you'll recognise us. We'll be the ones gasping for oxygen.
On a different point guys, have I translated the flyer correctly? The air to air shooting by F-18 to F-5 will be firing at a cloth target towed by the F-5? If I'm right, that should make interesting viewing.

Oh I can't wait, going there for the 1st time. Arriving there at the forsaken hour like most of us probably and then yes, sunrise at the top.

Been at Axalp village today, a "dry run", or simulation, if you will... just some basic recon so we don't waste much time tomorrow...
Well, all was dry there, no snow at all on the road up to the village.
