On March 17th it will be officially announced by the Secretaty of Defence, the Danish Chief of Staff and Flyvevabnet Chef that the AVB (afvidningsberetskabet) will taken over partly by the F-35A from April 1st. The Lightning II will presumably sometimes form half of the local QRA force, but not at all times.

Noted at Fighter Wing on 19.03. on a more than great day were the following Esk 727 aircrafts:

Taking off from 9.49h to 10.05h local were:

F-35A L-005, L-007, L-008 and L-010
F-16AM/BM E-602 (Have Glass V), E-604 (Have Glass V), E-609 (Have Glass V), ET-198 plus AVB/QRA E-016 and E-024.

Taking off from 12.50 to 13.25h local for the afternoon mission were:

F-16AM/BM E-602, E-604, E-609 and ET-197 (all four in Have Glass V) plus the same four F-35A as in the morning. E-602 was flying two and ET-197 one low and fast attack overshoot on Esk 727´s dispersal area!

Also noted was F-16AM E-107 which was towed into a HAS.

Visiting was C-130J-30 B-536 of Esk 721, departing later to Rzeszow while a rarely at Skrydstrup seen AS.550C-2, P-276 of Esk 724, did an overshoot.

At least some Danish F-16 flew mainly missions to the Römö Range on this day dropping bombs and shooting their canons. Very special were 20(!) overshootings, touch and go´s and several dead-engine-approaches by the two types making it an exceptional day in beautiful weather!

KC-130J MM62177/46-42 of 46aBA arrived at 21.35h on 25.03.

Tomorrow a 14.Stormo, 71.Gruppo E-550A and a 8.Gruppo KC-767A should arrive and presumably also some F-35A from 6.Stormo, 102.Gruppo. If the tanker will land is not known.

On 25.03. HuAF A.319 604 also visited.

Noted here on 28.03. were the following aircrafts:

Departing at 8.28h were AVB/QRA F-16AM E-016 and E-598 (first sight in 2025) of Esk 727 arriving back after 1 hour and 45 minutes. It was noted that E-598 wore it’s serial as some kind of white sticker. It was the same as E-024 noted on 19.03. Most presumably these two could leave for UKR in the future.

Esk 727 flew also with F-35A L-003, L-005, L-007 and L-009.

A „Ramstein Flag“ rehearsal was flown by HuAF/MH101 Gripen C 30, 34 and 36 plus Gripen D 43.
Also noted flying their first mission were F-35A MM7366/6-01 and MM7367/6-02 of 6.Stormo, 102. Gruppo.

Flying one mission was E-550A MM62293/14-11 of 14.Stormo, 8.Gruppo.

The highlight of course was TEO, who did a brilliant flying display with Dannebrog F-16AM E-006 at 11.00h! He did this at the easterly part of the base thrilling it’s spectators once more!

Three and a half hours in nice weather couldn’t be spent much better!

Poland and Denmark signed an agreement to make it possible that their two QRA-Forces (named AVB in Denmark) could fly into the airspace of the foreign country on their missions. Also some joint training should be done in the future. This will simplify the cooperation during NATO Alpha scrambles.

It is still not clear if two, three or more Italian F-35A arrived for Ramstein Flag as only two of them were seen and unidentified. Tomorrow at least one more should arrive from Ghedi.

At the end of March 2025 and therefore a little bit earlier than planned the F-35 was introduced into the AVB (afvisningsberedskabet). Together with two F-16AM two F-35A will be the first row of defence.

Like in the past the AVB not only will act as a NATO QRA as it will also usually show the flag during flights at the Danish National Day (June 5th), National Flag Day (September 5th), Veterans Day and other national events. Even on most weekends with good (VFR) weather there is one flight daily in the morning/around midday flying over many parts on Denmark.
