Photo viewing software

Post by jaspervh »

Hi, I'm a big fan of sorting my aviation photos and currently using the build-in app Microsoft photo's with Microsoft file explorer for a while now. But I notice i miss some functions like, renaming photos in a series or adding tags, fast JPG photo display, etc... Does anyone know an app to do these things + more as an replacement for the Microsoft sofware?
I saw "XnView MP" for example, is this an good app to sort out photo's, anyone having experiences with it?

And does anybody also have some advise for how to sorting images to keep an good overview of it all? And should I just unchange my photonames and keep it like DSC_0001.JPG and on, or change it for better structure? For example changing my photos to the aircraft in that photo, or something else?

I've been trying to figure out lately how to store my photos in a organized way. Hopefully someone can help me!

Thanks in advance!

The link is more Editing than viewing..
Anyways..

I dont shoot raw, just jpeg i have no interest in extreme editing.. just the basics is all i need :-)
I dont bother renaming the files, when i need to do that i just a freeware tool AnalogExif. (also useful for re-date scanned slides or photos)

my proces looks like this:
I store and sort my pictures in dated folders om my harddisk (folder yyyy\yyyy-mm-dd) and do an backup on another harddisk.
I edit (sharpen straighten etc) with an old version of zoner photo studio.
This is also the tool to tag my pictures (serial, type, airforce, location/airbase, exercise or event, remarks)
Then i upload the tagged pictures to Flickr per day in a album. (private or public)

I view my pictures in the browser on Flickr, to search i use the alphabetical taglist Flickr creates - extremely powerfull.
Flickr has a big benefit because you have you're whole collection (and tags) in your phone available anywhere...
ok the Pro account will take a few euros per year...

The proces fulfills my needs for over 20 years now..
Goodluck choosing the appropriate proces for yourself...

cheers Richard

I was about to write this too. It's great and free. I use it to examine and select photos since Adobe Bridge is to slow for that.

Gets a vote from me too, I have used it for a few years and it is very reliable.
