Crash Swiss EC635 (06-11-2024)

Post by Canberra TT.18 »

Crash / hardlanding Swiss EC635 Wednesday evening.
Before landing at Alpnach airfield in Obwalden, an army helicopter collided with the terrain on Wednesday evening. It was damaged in the process. The two pilots were able to eject independently and were taken to hospital for a check-up.

Looking at adsb records the most likely candidate would be T-367, although T-355 was also in the area around the same time.
No pictures or post have popped up yet confirming it as far as I can find

Assessment: The damaged a/c is free from burn marks, and with all cockpit glass and rotor blades shattered, It came to rest lying on a grassy patch of a grassy and lightly wooded sloping hill, overlooking a lake with a marina and with a busy multi lane road adjacent to the foot of that hill. © Glidepath-NL

The helicopter crashed roughly 600m NW of Alpnach's runway 19, right next to the Pilatus Bahn railroad leading up the mountain. The roads you see are highway 8 and the Brunigerstrasse. Lake is the Alpnacher See.

T-355 was active on the 7th, so should not be a candidate.

and to paint the picture further: The tail boom and fenestron are stil attached, seemingly undamaged, much like the engine bay and the hull itself for as far it is visible

You might want to refrain from becoming an air crash investigator :-) The tailboom has rotated through 180 degrees and both the bottom part of the fenestron and the skids have sheared off the airframe. Total write off.
