Just a few pics of a few days in wonderful South Korea. Most of the time it was overcast but at least no rain.
Started at Osan but by 11 am nothing had taken off. So off to Suwon.

Re: Exploring Korean Air Bases
Went back to Osan around 3:30pm but still nothing so ended up for an early dinner in Pyeongtaek.
Next morning a nice and early breakfast. As I was walking to the car a loud noise overhead 7:30'ish am. U-2 with "roofrack." Osan was not the target today so lick the wounds and started driving towards Wonju. Never been so location wise a little unsure of what to expect.
Actually found a real nice spot somewhat out of sight. However within the first 30 min or so a local farmer on a scooter blocked the car and started pointing and talking Korean. My Korean is not up to par so waived and he moved on. I did not feel very comfortable with the encounter and so moved on to a nice spot as well. And still great for photo's. Got a hand full of KA-1's and FA-50's returning but again a farmer on a scooter with his wife (different guy) also started talking and pointing towards the base. I figured I still had some real business to take care off later in the week so not worth pushing the limit and left for a slightly out of sight spot but not great for photo's. Actually had more people encounters but they did not say anything so felt more comfortable.
To be honest this has been the only encounters I have ever had in Korea with locals. Typically they do not make eye contact or say anything.

Re: Exploring Korean Air Bases
The afternoon plan was for Chungju to hunt for some KF-16's. No IC between Wonju and Chungju so 80km roads took slightly over an hour to get there.
Found a great spot on some tiny farm roads. Actually they had build a gazebo and a porta potty close by that had electricity as well. In case you ever need to charge your battery.
Soon after I arrived fully loaded Vipers came back and more Vipers could be heard starting up. It seemed about 6-8 would come back and 6-8 would go out. In between some visitors and heard the occasional fighters overhead returning from the MOA's to the North. F-35's, F-15's, FA-50's, etc.
In all 16 F-16's, a KT-1, C-130, and a Chinook. As nothing had taken off I left around 3:30'ish. I could still make Osan for the U-2 RTB which is typically between 4:30 and 5:30 depending how many are up. No luck with the U-2's but did see 6 Vipers and 2 A-10's take off at 5pm.

Re: Exploring Korean Air Bases
And last day for some airplane chasing it was Osan in the morning and Suwon in the afternoon. Weather was going to be the best out of three days. However Osan was flying rwy 09 which is not the greatest. At 11am the base was going quiet per NOTAM. So plan was to make the journey to Suwon.
Suwon was a disappointment. Nothing flew and so made my way back to Seoul around 2pm. Traffic sucked as usual and the 40km or so took a good 2.5 hours.

Re: Exploring Korean Air Bases
Great report Tally, thanks very much. Your experience with the locals reminds me of Taiwan 14 years ago. Funny how those parallels exist. Drooling over the the F-4s that will have gone by the time I get there, if ever!
Cheers,
Erik
