Vooralarm klein vanwege een Amerikaanse A-10 Thunderbolt die zojuist is geland op de Oostbaan met een "serieus" probleem.

Good to see it ended well.

I always wonder how these things work. Where do the pilots sleep or are they picked up? Does Schiphol charge a landing fee afterwards to the USAF? Etc etc

BTW; Left wing political parties
will use this to scream murder now knowing that a military plane that was in trouble was vectored over the city center of Amsterdam (RWY22). Mark my words

What has happened? On the video you can clearly see the A10 far to high for 22 even for an A10. On the liveatc I could only hear that he was supposed to come in on 24. Traffic on 24 had to wait and a police helicopter over the city as well. On the liveradar it looks like it was a problem somewere close to the end of 22. Cannot find much about the incident.

Indeed, both

and

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldEMCmVpN4o
are a bit short.
You cannot make out much from this footage... :|

Well I think the aircraft shot a normal ILS approach. I might have looked higher as we are used to much bigger aircraft than the tiny A-10. I understand that the aircraft had a pressurisation problem whilst still over the water with AMS being the closest suitable airport to land.

No it looks like this is the hight for runway 24 approach. Bizjets are normally landing a little bit right of the sound barrier.

Tried to find the ATC conversation but didn't find much. Only the tower around 15:02 saying that a military plane is coming in on 24 with an emergency and then 15:04 (local times) saying it is on short final. Like Hopla already found out.

First both A-10s came on on RWY 22, 81-0956 for landing and 81-0991 as wingman on 500ft. During landing of 956 both main tires got smokey (I assume through brakeforce) and at the end of RWY22 turned right and hold position. Fire brigade and other services awaiting the wounded bird. His wingman went around, made an approach on RWY27, go around and orbit past the main tower en than came in for a full stop landing at RWY24. During the first and second fly-by over the airfield RWY24 was used for departing traffic, Transavia B737 PH-HZJ, BA A319 G-DBCA and Turkish A321 TC-JSM had to vacate the runway (Transavia and BA where already lined up, vacated at Sierra 4 and back in line for HV. The BA A319 went back to D26. Turkish went to Sierra 8 and got a detour over Sierra apron. After landing at RWY24 A-10C 991 vacated the runway and was escorted by a follow me vehicle towards Schiphol-East. So far the movements as I saw from the observation deck (had no scanner with me so no idea about the RT).
