The BEA has announce that in the last 24 hours, the current search expedition in the Atlantic has located wreckage that was been identified as being from AF447.
They believe that this may mean that they have located the main wreckage site, but this is no guarantee that they will be able to recover the FDR and CVR, or even if they will be able to extract any info from them if they are recovered.
Either way, this sounds like a major step forward in what has to be one of the most mysterious accidents in modern times.

Re: Additional AF447 Wreckage Located
Apparently the wreckage found includes both engines and portions of the wing.
Even if the FDR and CVR are not located within this area, it considerably narrows down the area that still has to be searched.
BEA will be holding a press conference at 1300UTC today to display/discuss what has been found.

Images released by the BEA at their press conference can be found here.
The complete presentation can also be found on the BEA website: http://www.bea.aero/fr/enquetes/vol.af. ... il2011.pdf
Phase 5, also known as the recovery phase, will now commence (funded by the French Government). It should take about 3-4 weeks before anything comes out of that, as the vessels involved still have to transit to the wreckage location. Fingers crossed that they are able to locate the recorders in the meantime, and hopefully they'll still contain useful data.
