RAF Waddington (EGXW) Visitors 2/3/4 June 2011
We had a few nice visitors at the end of last week, C-130s from RDAF & RSAF plus the Army Air Corp's newest Defender, ZH005. I caught the Dane & the Defender on the ground in the evening light on Thursday evening whilst returning home from RAF Cosford & RAF Shawbury. http://www.igniter.o...

RAF Cranwell 15/5/11
There are currently both Martin-Baker meteors (WA638 & WL419) at Cranwell ahead of this weekends celebration of the 70th anniversary of the first flight of a British jet aircraft there on May 15th 1941. The anniversary will be marked by a private reception at the RAF College for former colleague...

Re: EGUN - RAF Mildenhall Ospreys 29/3/11
There's some confusion over how long they're here for, I've been told 2 weeks, 4 weeks & 6 weeks, but haven't heard anything official on the subject yet!

EGUN - RAF Mildenhall Ospreys 29/3/11
We drew a blank on Sunday 27th, with only 2 Ospreys ground-running, so we went back on Tuesday 29th after hearing that only one had ground-run on the Monday. We were hoping for some Osprey flying as most of us hadn't seen a USAF osprey airborne before. It was a long day waiting, and by mid-afternoon...

Re: Libya - OPERATION ODYSSEY DAWN - Coalition overview
Hi, Very small update. Callsigns of the RAF Typhoons were RRR9611-9619 Oscar Just for the record: did they fly under Ascot (RRR) or Rafair (RFR) callsign? Richard, they used ASCOT callsigns. Info is firsthand, source: my scanner at the crashgate as they taxied and departed. Correction to Oscar's po...

Re: There's a first time for everything... RAF Coningsby 20Mar11
I'd have thought that the 'missing' round was probably offloaded before departure maybe due to a fault? I wouldn't have thought that the RAF was short of ASRAAMs, especially as the F3 used to carry them too. With regard to carrying them on a transit flight, having the aircraft arrive already armed c...

And today was the first time Typhoons have deployed on operations. Pity the sun didn't hang around until they moved, but an interesting set nonetheless. Here they are in departure order as they cleared the last-chance pin removal. http://www.igniter.org.uk/avpics/bmpics/9611.jpg http://www.igniter.o...

RAF Waddington - EGXW - Nimrod R1 XV249 'special' scheme
Hi all, my first post on here in a while. I haven't photographed much worth showing you all until yesterday. On the way home from the Dominie retirement at Cranwell I saw XV249 in the circuit at Waddington. It has special markings applied to celebrate the end of the Nimrod R1 in RAF service. The typ...

Today 6sqn rolled out their first 3 Typhoons in full markings. Since the squadron formed, they have been flying with only code letters on the tail of the jets. Today, they got a little more colourful. I went across early this morning and caught the first fully-marked jet being towed out to the line ...

James, just to correct you, ZZ419 didn't go back to Hawarden, it departed overseas as RRR7075 IIRC.
