Will visit Rostock in a couple weeks. Is it possible to see the based helo from outside? On googlemaps it looks difficult.

Although I have no further info on it, I noticed the c/n plate was missing. Seems to be a bad sign to me, that's not something you remove from an aircraft unless it is not going to fly anymore I would say (ok, there are exceptions, but a German NH.90?). I did this in 2021, we also had a lot of rain but i did like it very much.
We also had a base visit at Chateaudun but not visit the gendarmerie at Amiens.

Is having a ladder needed for the spotters day?
I plan to go, but I was under the impression no ladder was needed

Not needed but KB can be very crowded at some places than a little step is easy.
When you avoid those crowded areas you don't need a stepladder.
